Job summary

Adelaide University’s College of Health in the Adelaide CBD Campus is seeking a part-time Laboratory Specialist to support pharmaceutical science, pharmacy and chemistry teaching, overseeing specialist laboratory environments and ensuring practical classes are safe, compliant and ready for delivery.

You will work with academic staff to develop and quality-check practical activities, troubleshoot technical issues and assist in introducing new experiments and teaching methods.

Qualifications

• Degree in pharmaceutical science, pharmacy, chemistry or related field with relevant experience.
• Experience in teaching, research or industry laboratory environment and ability to manage laboratory activities.
• Experience preparing, testing and quality-checking laboratory materials and practical activities.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety requirements, chemical and hazardous materials management, SOPs and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee specialist laboratory environments and ensure safety/compliance for practical classes.
• Develop and quality-check practical activities and assist in new experiments/teaching methods.

• Based in the College of Health at the Adelaide CBD Campus
• Part-time (0.6FTE), continuing position
• Starting Salary at $84,498 pro rata (plus 17% superannuation)
• Use your pharmaceutical science or chemistry expertise to support practical teaching

The team

Reporting to the Team Lead, Chemistry, you will join the Specialist Facilities and Technical Services team within the College of Health. Working alongside other technical staff, you will support academics and students across laboratory-based teaching activities and help ensure specialist facilities remain safe, compliant and ready for teaching.

The position will primarily support activities within the Bradley Building, with work also undertaken across City East and City West depending on scheduled classes and operational requirements.

Experience

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:

• A degree in pharmaceutical science, pharmacy, chemistry or a related field, with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education or training.
• Demonstrated experience in a teaching, research or industry laboratory environment, with the ability to independently manage laboratory activities and provide technical advice.
• Experience preparing, testing and quality-checking laboratory materials, equipment and practical activities, including supporting the development of new laboratory methods or experiments.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety requirements, including chemical and hazardous materials management, SOPs, risk controls, inductions and compliance documentation.

Experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting complex laboratory equipment, including method development and maintaining accurate technical and compliance records. Experience using pharmacy-related systems or databases, including simulated pharmacy software such as FRED, would be advantageous.

• Some work outside standard hours may be required, including participation in a roster where operationally necessary.
