Job description

The School is seeking a driven, enthusiastic and innovative Technical Events Manager to join our team in Term 4, 2026. The role will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the technical aspects of the auditorium, chapel, outdoor events and managing all aspects of its day-to-day operations.

The Allan Shaw Centre is a dynamic, multi-purpose space that supports a range of School bookings, including services, assemblies, productions and exhibitions. Additionally, the venue is a sought after cultural hub within the northern corridor, regularly hosting large scale events including concerts, gala dinners, ceremonies and international dance competitions.

Reporting to the Head of Performing Arts, the key aspects of this role include assisting with the planning and production of all internal and external events, including lighting design and programming, sound, staging, multimedia and projection.

Key Responsibilities

Liaise with the Teacher in Charge of Music, Teacher in Charge of Drama and Dance, Teacher in Charge of Dance, the Artistic Director, Instrumental Programme Coordinator, external contractors, technical staff and external clients as to their event requirements for auditorium resources and support.

Ensure the Auditorium operates in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to Occupational Health and Safety workplace regulations.

Manage the daily Calendar of events that need technical support in the Main theatre, the Black box theatre, the Chapel and any Outdoor events during the year.

Manage the technical staffing shifts to ensure staffing cover across all events.

Manage the technical resources to ensure that equipment is stored in the correct places and in good working order, so each event runs successfully.

Liaise with all relevant parties to e ensure an understanding is in place regarding the needs for event and early agreements are confirmed.

Action all preventative maintenance requirements.

Action all reactive maintenance requirements.

Ensure all Employees and Contractors complete the relevant Induction.

Manage the on staff and contractor technical staff as Line Manager.

Ensure all on staff technical staff have the required Pd and compliance certifications to do their role.

Ensure cleaning services are booked for all out of hour’s events and advise the person responsible to ensure alarms are disarmed for these events.

3+ years’ experience in a theatre environment or similar role.

Previous experience working in a school setting (desirable).

Previous experience managing internal and external client event bookings.

Experience of live sound mixing (preferably using the Allen and Heath SQ7 desk as well as analogue sound desks).

Experience in using a grandMA3 lighting console.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate positive relationships with all stakeholders and capability to visualise and translate stakeholder ideas.

Ability to communicate positively and effectively with all members of the School community and clients of the Allan Shaw Centre.

Ability to successfully manage a number of diverse tasks in a pressurised environment, and must possess the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines.

Highly developed communication, interpersonal, planning and organisational skills.

Capable and competent financial, organisational and resource management skills and the capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to successfully manage a number of diverse tasks in a busy school environment.

Must be able to carry out auditorium duties which may include a certain amount of physical and sometimes heavy activities.

Proficient in MS Office

A qualification in Technical Theatre at tertiary level.

Previous experience working in a professional theatre.

Previous experience working in a school setting.

First Aid and CPR training certificates.
