Job summary

University of the Sunshine Coast is seeking a part-time Technical Assistant (Science) to provide practical support for undergraduate teaching. You will prepare laboratories, equipment and consumables, assist with pack‑up, and help maintain a safe learning environment across campuses on the Sunshine Coast and possibly Moreton Bay.

Some campus travel may be required. You will work with experienced staff to ensure smooth practical classes, focusing on accuracy, safety and collaboration in a busy

• Level 4, $76,275 - $80,218 p.a, plus up to 17% employer superannuation
• Part-time (18.13 hours per week), ongoing appointment

The Opportunity

Join UniSC’s Academic Support Unit as a Technical Assistant (Science) and provide practical, hands‑on support for undergraduate Science teaching. Working alongside experienced technical staff, you will help prepare laboratories, equipment and consumables for practical classes, assist with pack-up and cleaning, and contribute to maintaining a safe and well‑organised learning environment for students. Some travel between campuses may be required.

You will

• assist with preparing, setting up and packing down equipment, materials and consumables for Science practical classes;
• prepare simple solutions, aliquot materials, label tubes and laboratory items, and restock consumables as required;
• clean, maintain and assist with the routine calibration of laboratory equipment and facilities; and
• support the safe and effective operation of teaching laboratories in accordance with University procedures.

About you

You are a practical and reliable team member who enjoys working in a hands‑on environment and takes pride in supporting quality teaching and learning. You will be organised, safety‑conscious and comfortable managing practical tasks in a busy academic environment. With good communication skills and a collaborative approach, you will work effectively with technical staff and contribute to a positive and inclusive workplace.

You will possess:

• A relevant Diploma, or a combination of relevant experience and education/training.
• Demonstrated experience providing practical and technical support in a teaching or laboratory environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work positively and collaboratively as part of a team.
• The ability to manage competing demands and work effectively in a changing, client‑focused academic environment.
• Good manual handling skills and the ability to safely perform tasks involving lifting, carrying, bending and twisting, including moving and storing equipment.
• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices and the ability to apply safe operating procedures in a laboratory environment.
• A current driver’s licence.
