Job summary

UniSC is seeking a Technician to join the Academic Support Unit across Moreton Bay, Caboolture, Gympie and Fraser Coast sites, providing specialist technical support to Nursing and Midwifery programs. You will prepare and maintain clinical learning environments, operate simulation technologies and support effective student learning in collaboration with academic staff.

This role does not involve teaching; it's technical and simulation support to ensure safe, functional facilities and equipment

Qualifications

• Completion of a relevant degree, or equivalent experience; nursing/midwifery focus desirable.
• Experience providing technical support in teaching, workshop, or clinical settings.
• Commitment to using simulation in learning and adapting to new tech.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety, risk assessments, SOPs.
• Strong organisational skills, ability to manage high-volume workloads.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with staff and students.

• Academic Support Unit | UniSC Moreton Bay, UniSC Caboolture, UniSC Gympie and UniSC Fraser Coast
• Level 5, $82,843 - $93,358 p.a. full-time equivalent, plus up to 17% employer superannuation
• Multiple newly created positions available:
  • • Moreton Bay: Part-time (29 hours per week), ongoing
    • Caboolture: Full-time (36.25 hours per week), ongoing and part-time (80% FTE, 29 hours per week), ongoing
    • Gympie: Part-time (21.75 hours per week), ongoing
    • Fraser Coast: Part-time (21.75 hours per week), ongoing

The Opportunity

Join a growing team supporting the expansion of UniSC's Nursing and Midwifery programs. These newly created positions have been established in response to continued growth across the University and increasing demand for Nursing and Midwifery education. You will provide specialist technical support across clinical teaching and high-fidelity simulation environments, ensuring facilities, equipment and resources are safe, well-prepared and ready to support high-quality learning experiences.

Bring your clinical or technical expertise into a university environment and play an important role in supporting the next generation of Nursing and Midwifery professionals. Working closely with academic and professional staff, you will prepare and maintain clinical learning environments, operate simulation technologies and provide practical technical support that enables effective student learning.

Please note:

This role provides technical and simulation support and does not undertake teaching, assessment, or student instruction responsibilities.

You will

• provide technical expertise and support for undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing and Midwifery programs, including preparing and facilitating high-fidelity simulation and clinical learning environments;
• prepare, maintain and safely operate clinical equipment, simulation technologies, facilities and resources, working closely with academic staff to ensure environments are safe, functional and ready for scheduled learning activities; and
• provide technical guidance and problem-solving support, including training staff in the use of simulation equipment and, where required, training and supervising casual team members.

About you

You bring strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively across verbal, written and active listening contexts. You work confidently both independently and within a team, showing initiative and adapting readily to change and new situations. Proactive and self-directed, you manage high-volume workloads with minimal supervision while applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver practical, effective outcomes.

You will possess:

• Completion of a relevant degree, or a combination of relevant experience and education/training may also be considered, with experience providing technical and practical support within a tertiary educational, clinical or similar environment. Experience supporting Nursing and Midwifery disciplines would be desirable;
• Demonstrated experience providing practical and technical support in a teaching, workshop, clinical or similar environment, with the ability to prepare and facilitate high-quality practical and simulated learning experiences;
• A demonstrated commitment to utilising simulation methodology in learning and its ability to transform education, with the ability and willingness to learn and support new technologies and techniques;
• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including experience conducting and documenting risk assessments, implementing safe operating procedures, and working in accordance with relevant policies, guidelines and legislation;
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changing requirements in a high-volume environment; and
• Effective communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with academic, technical and professional staff and students, build positive working relationships, and provide accurate and timely advice.
