Job summary

The Australian Digital Health Agency seeks a Technical Adviser to lead digital health initiatives supporting medicines safety across Australia. This EL1 role translates clinical, regulatory and technical concepts into practical workflows for diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in clinical informatics, health informatics, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, allied health, digital health, IT or related field; clinical registration highly regarded.
• Strong analytical skills mapping complex clinical/technical processes into practical workflows.
• Experience in digital health, health service delivery, government policy or large-scale reform is highly regarded.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills with experience giving authoritative advice and building relationships across government, healthcare and industry.
• Demonstrated use of data and evidence to inform delivery and decision-making.

The Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) commenced operations on 1 July 2016, tasked with improving health outcomes for Australians through digital healthcare systems and the National Digital Health Strategy. About the Role

The Agency's Medicines Safety Program advances the national medicines safety agenda, using digital health initiatives to improve medicines information, clinical decision support, and interoperable health information across Australian healthcare.

The Technical Adviser is a senior EL1 specialist providing authoritative advice on the design, implementation and evaluation of digital health initiatives supporting medicines safety and quality use of medicines. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the role translates complex clinical, regulatory and technical concepts into practical workflows and solutions for diverse stakeholders.

The role requires strong knowledge of the Australian digital medicines landscape - including electronic prescribing, medication management, clinical decision support, terminology and interoperability standards, and My Health Record - along with the ability to interpret and apply relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation and policy. The Technical Adviser also maps and improves clinical and business processes, facilitating workshops and building stakeholder consensus.

As an EL1 leader, the Technical Adviser builds organisational capability through mentoring, specialist knowledge-sharing and contribution to strategic discussions, supporting the delivery of safe, connected and person-centred healthcare across Australia.

Key Duties

• Provide expert advice on policy, complex problem solving and issues management for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks.
• Integrate clinical, technical, policy and consumer perspectives to inform program design and delivery, translating complex data and insights into clear advice for decision-makers.
• Contribute specialist technical and project management expertise across the Medicines Safety Program, including researching implementation details, analysing project data, and preparing briefs, submissions and procurement documentation.
• Exercise a high degree of independence and judgement to resolve complex issues, manage risks, and take accountability for end-to-end delivery, governance and benefits realisation.
• Build and sustain strategic relationships with Government, industry and clinical partners, leading stakeholder engagement to support co-design, change management and successful adoption of program outcomes.

• Contribute to a positive, inclusive, high-performing culture, while providing technical leadership, mentoring and capability development in clinical informatics and digital health across the Agency
• Provide authoritative clinical informatics advice to support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of national medicines safety initiatives
• Build and sustain collaborative relationships across the Agency and with Government, industry and clinical stakeholders to enable coordinated delivery and adoption
• Apply expert knowledge of the Australian digital medicines landscape (e-prescribing, medication management, clinical decision support, interoperability standards) to inform policy and technical decisions
• Analyse and map complex clinical, business and technical processes, translating requirements into clear workflows and implementation approaches
• Prepare high-quality, evidence-based briefings, policy advice and technical papers for senior executives and governance forums
• Contribute to digital health policy, standards and frameworks, and apply data-driven thinking to identify improvements and design user-centred solutions
