Job summary

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is seeking a Team Leader for Waste Strategy and Planning to guide the Waste Projects and Planning team and deliver aligned initiatives for the community.

Based in Queanbeyan, the role is full-time (35 hours/week) with flexible work arrangements and a salary range of AUD 99,242 to AUD 109,664.36 plus 12% super, evaluated as Grade 14 of the Salary System 2026.

Qualifications

• Holds relevant qualifications in Waste Management, Project Management, Environmental Management or a related discipline, and/or has substantial relevant experience.
• Experience leading a customer-focused team and delivering projects.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation and facilitation skills.

• Lead and support the Waste Projects and Planning team, fostering a positive, engaged and customer-focused team environment.
• Plan, deliver and review projects and initiatives aligned with Council’s Waste Strategy, while monitoring emerging waste management issues and trends.
• Provide strategic advice and prepare reports for a range of stakeholders, while collaborating with internal teams to improve waste management and customer outcomes.

Team Leader - Waste Strategy and Planning

Position Number: 6576 Location: Queanbeyan

The Package: $99,242 - $109,664.36 gross per annum + 12% super. (Evaluated as Grade 14 of the QPRC Salary System 2026) and Award increases of 4% in 2027-28 and 4% in 2028-2029.

Full-time – 35 hours per week. Flexible work arrangements will be considered.

• Lead and support the Waste Projects and Planning team, fostering a positive, engaged and customer-focused team environment.
• Plan, deliver and review projects and initiatives aligned with Council’s Waste Strategy, while monitoring emerging waste management issues and trends.
• Provide strategic advice and prepare reports for a range of stakeholders, while collaborating with internal teams to improve waste management and customer outcomes.

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds relevant qualifications in Waste Management, Project Management, Environmental Management or a related discipline, and/or has substantial relevant experience.
• Has demonstrated experience leading a customer-focused team and successfully planning, managing and delivering projects.
• Has sound knowledge of waste minimisation, emerging waste management trends and NSW planning legislation, with strong written, verbal, presentation and facilitation skills.
