Job summary

Core-EP is seeking a Team Lead & Senior Environmental Engineer in Melbourne to lead a multidisciplinary Engineering, Design and Compliance team. The role blends hands-on delivery with people leadership, overseeing complex environmental systems and coordinating a team of engineers for high-quality client outcomes.

You will guide design, modelling, fieldwork and reporting, while mentoring staff, managing budgets and fostering business development.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
• At least 7 years of relevant industry experience
• Experience with landfill gas systems, leachate management or remediation
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working toward Chartership

Responsibilities

• Design, review and approve complex environmental engineering projects, including landfill gas systems, leachate treatment, vapour mitigation and remediation infrastructure
• Provide technical direction on system design, modelling, commissioning and optimisation
• Act as senior technical reviewer for reports, calculations, drawings and specifications
• Lead projects and workstreams, coordinating fieldwork, design, subcontractors and multidisciplinary inputs
• Line manage engineers and technical staff, including goal setting, development planning and regular performance conversations
• Allocate resources across projects and track team utilisation, budgets and financial performance
• Mentor engineers in design, risk assessment, field implementation and client engagement
• Support business development through proposals, fee estimates and client engagement
• Identify capability gaps and contribute to recruitment and workforce planning
• Make sure project delivery meets Core-EP quality, safety and procedural requirements

We are seeking a Team Lead & Senior Environmental Engineer to lead our Engineering, Design and Compliance team in Melbourne (VIC). This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys a mix of hands‑on technical delivery and leading people. You will design and review complex environmental engineering systems, and you will also lead, mentor and resource a team of engineers to deliver high quality outcomes for our clients.

What we are looking for

• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• At least 7 years of relevant industry experience
• Demonstrated experience in landfill gas systems, leachate management, remediation or equivalent infrastructure
• Strong design capability, including hydraulic calculations, gas modelling and system optimisation
• Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
• Commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting and utilisation tracking
• Understanding of relevant Australian Standards and environmental legislation
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards Chartership
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to sites
