Job summary

Green Light Worldwide is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Senior Security Engineer in Canberra on a contract basis. You will design, implement, accredit, and manage secure enterprise environments, focusing on data-centric security and Zero Trust architectures.

The role requires strong systems engineering, cyber security, and governance experience, with exposure to Windows Server, enterprise networking, and security accreditation processes.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer, Security Engineer, or similar senior technical role.
• Strong understanding of Data-Centric Security concepts and Zero Trust Architecture frameworks.
• Experience with Windows Server environments, enterprise networking, cyber security controls, system architecture, and security accreditation processes.
• Proven ability to coordinate with complex stakeholder groups and manage competing priorities.
• Experience coordinating testing, validation, and operational readiness activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of secure systems aligned with Data-Centric Security and Zero Trust principles.
• Provide engineering expertise across Windows Server, networking, cyber security, and systems architecture domains.
• Support development and maintenance of secure, interoperable environments aligned with security frameworks.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure delivery outcomes.
• Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and capability gaps through the project lifecycle.
• Oversee testing, validation, and integration across teams and services.
• Publish testing and development schedules for efficient use of shared environments.
• Maintain compliance with security accreditation requirements and governance processes.
• Document technical artefacts and accreditation evidence.
• Provide guidance on system sanitisation, security controls, and testing outcomes.
• Deliver specialist technical advice to stakeholders across locations and time zones.

Position: Senior Systems Engineer / Senior Security Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer / Security Engineer to support the design, implementation, accreditation, and ongoing management of secure enterprise and mission-critical environments. This role focuses on Data-Centric Security, Zero Trust architectures, and the integration of secure systems across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

You will work closely with technical teams, national and international stakeholders, and security specialists to deliver secure, accredited, and operationally effective solutions. The position requires a strong understanding of systems engineering, cyber security, network architectures, and secure testing environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of secure systems aligned with modern Data-Centric Security and Zero Trust principles.
• Provide engineering expertise across Windows server environments, networking, cyber security, and systems architecture domains.
• Support the development and maintenance of secure, interoperable environments aligned with industry and coalition security frameworks.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate engineering activities, gather requirements, manage requests, and ensure delivery outcomes are achieved.
• Identify, assess, and manage technical risks, issues, and capability gaps throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate and oversee testing, validation, and integration activities across multiple teams and services.
• Develop, maintain, and publish testing and development schedules to ensure efficient utilisation of shared environments and resources.
• Ensure systems maintain compliance with security accreditation requirements and associated governance processes.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, security artefacts, and accreditation evidence.
• Provide guidance to teams on system sanitisation, security controls, and compliance requirements following testing activities.
• Deliver specialist technical advice and support to stakeholders across multiple locations and time zones.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer, Security Engineer, or similar senior technical role.
• Strong understanding of Data-Centric Security concepts and Zero Trust Architecture frameworks.
• Experience with:
  • Windows Server (Wintel) environments
  • Enterprise networking technologies
  • Cyber security controls and governance
  • System architecture and integration
  • Security accreditation and compliance processes
• Demonstrated ability to work with complex stakeholder groups and manage competing priorities.
• Experience coordinating testing, validation, and operational readiness activities.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working within defence, government, national security, or other highly regulated environments.
• Knowledge of coalition, federated, or multi-domain network architectures.
• Familiarity with secure interoperability frameworks and mission partner environments.
• Experience supporting internationally distributed teams and stakeholders
