Job summary

Sydney Trains is seeking a Systems Assurance Engineer to join on a temporary full-time basis through to May 2027. You will plan, design, execute and report on systems assurance and testing activities across Operational Technology projects, providing RAMS expertise to ensure safety and integrity of the Sydney Trains system.

You will lead testing efforts, manage test environments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while applying RAMS principles to mitigate risks and support project

Qualifications

  • Experience with high availability systems.
  • Engineering degree and PE eligibility.
  • RAMS and assurance experience in OT/rail projects.

In this role, you'll:

We are seeking an experienced Systems Assurance Engineer to join our team on a temporary full-time basis through to May 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your systems engineering, assurance and testing expertise to Operational Technology projects within the rail environment, helping ensure systems are fit for purpose, reliable, safe and compliant with project and organisational requirements.

About the role

You will be responsible for planning, designing, executing and reporting on systems assurance and testing activities across Operational Technology projects.

You will provide specialist engineering advice and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) expertise, working with project teams and stakeholders to identify and manage risks and ensure the safety and integrity of the Sydney Trains system are maintained.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, developing, reviewing and delivering systems assurance activities and associated documentation.
  • Providing specialist RAMS and systems assurance engineering advice to projects and stakeholders.
  • Delivering effective testing activities to mitigate organisational, project and system risks.
  • Providing specialist engineering support for major Operational Technology system integration projects.
  • Managing test environments and the Operational Technology model room to support comprehensive systems testing.
  • Monitoring and reporting on assurance outcomes, risks, progress, cost and scope.
  • Driving continuous improvement in systems assurance and testing processes and practices.

You will be an experienced systems or assurance engineer with a strong understanding of systems engineering and engineering asset management principles. You will bring demonstrated experience working with high availability systems, testing environments and risk-based assurance practices.

You will ideally have:

  • Knowledge and experience in Systems Assurance and RAMS processes.
  • Knowledge of rail industry technology applications and requirements.
  • Substantial experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Experience delivering testing activities for high-availability systems, including test automation tools and frameworks.
  • Experience managing and configuring test environments for high-availability systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A four-year or longer IT/Electrical/Systems Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • A minimum of three years’ professional engineering experience, qualifying for Professional Engineer (MIEAust) Engineers Australia membership grade.
