Job summary

Parliament of Victoria is seeking a Systems Administrator to join the IT Platform Technology team. You will manage a hybrid cloud and on‑premises environment, covering Azure identity, backup with CommVault, and modern management with SCCM and Intune.

Reporting to the Platform Technology Lead, you will mentor colleagues, ensure 100% uptime, and translate complex technical issues for staff and Members of Parliament.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in complex environments.
• Proven experience with VMWare, CommVault, Azure and the Microsoft stack.
• Hands-on with SCCM, Intune, Entra and ADFS.
• Fluency in PowerShell and automation of business needs.
• Ability to translate complex tech to staff and MPs; strong documentation.
• Security focus with modern controls; relevant certifications encouraged.

About the role and team

Reporting to the IT Platform Technology Lead, you will join a specialised team of Systems Administrators where collaboration and knowledge sharing are at our core. While our team members have specific strengths, ranging from PowerShell scripting to Azure architecture, we operate on a "total backup" model. You will mentor IT team members, collaborate across the Platform Technology team, and ensure 100% uptime for the Parliament.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Cloud & Identity Management: Supporting all aspects of Azure, including Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and ADFS cloud authentication, while ensuring cloud optimisation (FinOps) and security best practices.
• Endpoint & Infrastructure: Maintaining the SCCM and Intune environments alongside VMWare virtualisation, storage infrastructure, and physical in-room facilities across all sites.
• Automation & Scripting: Utilising PowerShell and other platforms to automate business requirements and streamline operational efficiency.
• Data Integrity & Resilience: Designing and maintaining robust backup systems (specifically CommVault) to ensure data security across our hybrid cloud environment.
• Proactive Operations: Undertaking daily maintenance, technical research, and system monitoring to identify emerging technologies and security risks.
• Technical Governance: Writing technical specifications, "as-builts," business cases, and policies to ensure knowledge transfer and system stability.

About you

We are looking for a technically curious "all-rounder" with 3–5 years of experience in complex environments.

You should demonstrate:

• Core Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with VMWare, CommVault, Azure, and the Microsoft stack (M365, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive).
• Modern Management Tools: Hands‑on expertise with SCCM, Intune, Entra, and ADFS.
• The "Automation Mindset": Fluency in PowerShell and a track record of implementing scripts to solve business problems.
• Communication & Collaboration: The ability to translate complex technical issues for Members of Parliament and staff, working effectively with minimal supervision.
• Documentation Excellence: A commitment to creating high‑quality technical documentation, reports, and hardware/software standards.
• Security Focus: Experience managing cybersecurity controls aligned to modern industry standards.
• Qualifications: Microsoft or VMWare certifications are highly regarded. While ITIL is not mandatory, you should have an understanding of ITIL best practices (training will be provided).
