Job summary

Service Stream is seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer (Infrastructure) to join our Enterprise Technology team in Australia. You will balance day-to-day operational support with security uplift initiatives and continuous improvement across Windows, Linux, cloud, and on-premises infrastructure.

You will manage AWS/Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, automation, and IaC, delivering secure, scalable environments while contributing to our SIP and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of systems administration or infrastructure engineering experience in a medium to large enterprise.
• Hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux environments.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and Microsoft 365 administration.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Windows Server and Linux environments with security and high availability.
• Manage AWS and Azure infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and cost optimization.
• Oversee patching, vulnerability remediation, and security controls (Essential Eight-aligned).
• Manage TLS/SSL certificate lifecycle, renewal, monitoring and rotation.
• Deliver security hardening and remediation aligned with SIP.
• Maintain Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune) administration.
• Maintain enterprise networking infrastructure and vendor relationships.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code and automation using Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, PowerShell, Python, Ansible.
• Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD, and automated deployments.
• Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
• Create technical documentation and runbooks.

Job description

Service Stream is seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer (Infrastructure) to join our Enterprise Technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day operational support with continuous improvement and security uplift initiatives.

Reporting to the Enterprise Technology Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our core infrastructure, cloud platforms, Microsoft 365 environment, and security posture. This is a broad technical role covering Windows and Linux administration, AWS and Azure cloud services, networking, automation, security remediation, and infrastructure-as-code.

Preference for candidates based in Melbourne, however we are also open to applicants located in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth. (3 days in the office and 2 days working from home).

What you'll do

• Administer and support Windows Server and Linux environments, ensuring systems remain secure, patched, and highly available.
• Manage AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and cost optimisation.
• Oversee operating system and application patching, vulnerability remediation, and Essential Eight-aligned controls.
• Manage the SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle, including issuance, renewal, monitoring, and rotation.
• Deliver security hardening and remediation activities aligned with the company's Security Improvement Plan (SIP).
• Support Microsoft 365 administration across Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune.
• Maintain enterprise networking infrastructure, including firewalls, DNS, VPNs, load balancing, and network hardware lifecycle management.
• Manage software, cloud, and infrastructure licensing, renewals, and vendor relationships.
• Respond to infrastructure incidents, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to after-hours support and maintenance activities as required.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code and automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, PowerShell, Python, and Ansible.
• Contribute to DevOps practices, including version control, peer reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments.
• Manage backup, recovery, resilience, and disaster recovery processes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.

What You'll Bring

• Must be an Australian Citizen.
• 3+ years' experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering within a medium to large enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience supporting Windows Server, Linux, cloud platforms, Microsoft 365, networking, patching, monitoring, incident response, and technical documentation.
• Experience contributing to infrastructure uplift initiatives, including automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), DevOps practices, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
• Strong Windows Server administration skills, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, patching, and server lifecycle management.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting common Linux distributions.
• Administration experience across AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3) and ideally exposure to Azure environments.
• Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and licence management.
• Practical experience delivering security uplift and remediation activities, including patching, certificate management, secure configuration baselines, and alignment to formal security or remediation programs. Exposure to the Essential Eight is highly regarded.
• Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including support of network infrastructure, vendors, and support contracts.
• Experience managing software and cloud licensing, renewals, and vendor relationships.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, ARM templates, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar automation and IaC tools.
• Exposure to modern DevOps practices, including Git-based version control, peer reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and controlled deployment processes.
• The ability to maintain audit evidence, document remediation activities, and work closely with cyber security and governance teams.
• Exposure to utilities, telecommunications, field services, or infrastructure-based organisations will be highly regarded.
