Job description

Personalised Surgery develops patient‑specific technologies that help orthopaedic surgeons plan and perform complex procedures with greater precision.

Working at the intersection of engineering, medical imaging and clinical practice, we combine proprietary planning software, advanced manufacturing and close collaboration with surgeons to deliver personalised surgical solutions that improve patient outcomes.

Our solutions are designed, planned and manufactured in‑house, giving us complete control over the engineering process and enabling us to continually refine our technology through direct clinical feedback.

Based within Landmark Orthopaedics in St Leonards, Sydney, our multidisciplinary team works alongside leading orthopaedic surgeons, researchers and allied health professionals in a unique environment where engineering directly influences patient care.

We’re looking for engineers who are curious, analytical and excited by the opportunity to solve real clinical challenges through innovative medical technology.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Surgical Planning Engineer to join our Sydney-based team.

In this role, you will work closely with orthopaedic surgeons to transform patient imaging into personalised surgical plans and patient‑specific surgical instruments used in complex orthopaedic procedures.

You’ll contribute across the complete surgical planning workflow—from interpreting CT imaging and anatomical segmentation through to surgical planning, engineering design and case delivery.

Every case presents a unique clinical challenge, offering the opportunity to apply engineering principles in a highly collaborative healthcare environment.

Whether you’re an early‑career engineer looking to build your expertise or an experienced biomedical engineer seeking a new challenge, this role offers ongoing development, exposure to cutting‑edge technologies and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce patient‑specific surgical plans using CT imaging and proprietary planning software.
  • Perform anatomical segmentation and landmark identification from medical imaging datasets.
  • Design and review patient‑specific surgical instruments and associated technical documentation.
  • Collaborate directly with orthopaedic surgeons to ensure surgical plans align with clinical objectives.
  • Coordinate case progression with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation in accordance with quality management and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of surgical planning workflows and engineering processes.
  • Support research and development initiatives, including new product development and validation activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering investigations and other technical projects as required.
About You

You enjoy solving complex problems, have a strong attention to detail and are motivated by work that has a direct clinical impact.

Essential
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical work.
  • Understanding of anatomy and medical imaging principles.
  • Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to interpret three‑dimensional anatomy.
  • Confidence using software platforms and learning new technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute across a multidisciplinary team.
Highly Regarded
  • Experience with medical image segmentation.
  • Experience using CAD or 3D modelling software.
  • Knowledge of orthopaedic anatomy and procedures.
  • Experience within the medical device, healthcare or biomedical industries.
  • Exposure to additive manufacturing (3D printing) or patient‑specific technologies.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems or regulated environments.
Why Join Personalised Surgery?
