Job summary

Youturn is seeking empathetic, reliable and values-aligned Support Workers to join our dedicated team. You’ll walk alongside young people who may have experienced homelessness, trauma, or disconnection, helping them build independent living skills and reclaim their futures.

As a Support Worker, you’ll provide a safe, home-like environment and work with colleagues and external supports to ensure every young person is heard, respected, and empowered.

Qualifications

• Cert IV or higher in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work or related field (or working towards it).
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with respectful engagement.
• Ability to work with young people facing trauma, housing instability or mental health challenges.
• Demonstrated cultural competence with First Nations or CALD youth.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, home-like environment for residents.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external supports to ensure youths are heard and supported.
• Assist with daily routines and life skills development (cooking, budgeting, personal care).
• Support delivery of individual case plans under a client-centred framework.
• Respond to crises with professionalism and calm.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Support Worker, you’ll be the steady hand and supportive presence many of our young people need. You’ll provide a safe and respectful home‑like environment, working collaboratively with colleagues and external supports to ensure every young person is heard, respected, and empowered.

Your day-to-day includes:

• Assisting with new resident intake and helping them feel welcomed and safe
• Supervising and supporting daily routines and household responsibilities
• Facilitating life skills development (e.g., cooking, budgeting, personal care)
• Ensuring health, hygiene, safety and emotional wellbeing needs are met
• Supporting the delivery of individual case plans under a client‑centred framework
• Responding to crises with professionalism and calm

You’ll be part of a24/7 rotating roster, which includes day shifts, evening shifts, sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays — helping us provide consistent, around-the-clock care.

Essential Requirements

• Cert IV or higher in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work or related field (or working towards it)
• Exceptional communication skills – written, verbal, and interpersonal
• Experience or ability to work with young people facing complex barriers (e.g. trauma, housing instability, mental health)
• Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
• Open C Class driver licence
• Willingness to undergo a Child Safety and Disability Services Suitability Check
• Flexibility to work across a rotating 24/7 roster
• Cultural competence and experience working with First Nations or CALD youth

Desirable Extras

• Experience working in residential youth or crisis accommodation
• Strong knowledge of youth homelessness and child protection systems
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and client‑centred practice
• Experience using client management systems for case noting
