Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a Supervisor Maintenance Shutdowns to lead the Fixed Plant team at Dampier Port. You will mentor, coach and develop tradespeople while safely delivering planned shutdown work to schedule and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Safety of yourself and your team is a priority.
  • Mechanical trade background with practical technical support.
  • Statutory Position Legal Exam – Statutory Supervisor.
  • Current WA C Class Driver’s Licence (Manual).
  • Leadership, coaching and development of team members.
  • Contractor management experience.
  • Knowledge of Rio Tinto work management and shutdown principles.
  • Strong SAP for work execution and reporting.

  • Ensure maintenance work complies with standards and statutory requirements.
  • Support shutdown crews with troubleshooting, defect management and risk-based decisions.
  • Allocate resources using Rio Tinto work management principles.
  • Ensure work packs are executed with quality completion and proper close-out.
  • Conduct field leadership with critical controls and permit compliance.
  • Capture lessons learned for future safety and productivity improvements.
  • Ensure compliance to relative legislation, including statutory obligations.

About The Role

We are looking for a Supervisor Maintenance Shutdowns to join our Port Operation. You will Lead, mentor, coach and develop the Fixed Plant team including providing regular performance feedback. Provide leadership in safely executing fixed plant maintenance shutdown activities at a site level ensuring team performance is in line with short term objectives.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Superintendent Shutdown, you will

  • Adhere to all Rio Tinto standards, policies and procedures
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices
  • Lead the safe execution of mechanical shutdown work to deliver planned scope on schedule and to the required quality standard.
  • Manage daily maintenance activities to maximise productivity while minimising cost, rework and operational disruption.
  • Prioritise break-in, emergent and opportunistic work while maintaining overall shutdown objectives and critical path focus.
  • Provide frontline leadership and technical direction to tradespersons and contractors throughout shutdown execution.
  • Ensure maintenance work is executed in accordance with Rio Tinto standards, procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Support shutdown crews with mechanical troubleshooting, defect management and risk-based decision making during execution.
  • Allocate resources and maintenance activities using Rio Tinto work management principles.
  • Ensure work packs are executed as intended, with quality completion, accurate feedback and close-out.
  • Conduct field leadership by verifying critical controls, permit compliance, isolations and safe work practices.
  • Capture lessons learned and identify opportunities to improve future shutdown safety, productivity and reliability outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance to relative legislation, including statutory obligations
About You

  • Mechanical trade background with the ability to provide practical technical support and guidance to maintainers. (Essential)
  • Statutory Position Legal Exam – Statutory Supervisor (Essential)
  • A Current Western Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (Manual)
  • Leadership experience and confidence in leading, developing and coaching team members
  • Contractor management experience
  • Sound understanding of Rio Tinto work management processes and shutdown execution principles.
  • Strong SAP capability for work execution, work order management and maintenance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to build an engaged, accountable and high-performing team culture.

Where you’ll be working

Our integrated operations, which include port facilities, ensure we can supply the right quality product to our customers when they need it. We blend our products at our own ports, which allows us to produce a reliable and consistent product. And because we have dedicated shipping operations, we are able to better control the delivery of product to our customers.

We operate 4 independent shipping terminals at 2 locations, Cape Lambert and Dampier, managed as a single port system.

Dampier has terminals at Parker Point and East Intercourse Island, loading approximately 3 ships per day
