Job summary

Greatland is seeking a hands-on Fire Protection Lead at its Telfer operations in Western Australia. The role guides day-to-day fire protection oversight across the site, ensuring compliance with safety standards while supporting efficient mining operations.

You will manage a team of technicians and coordinate inspections, testing, and regulatory activities. The position requires strong leadership, technical depth in fire protection, and a proven track record within mining or remote-site

Qualifications

• Proven experience maintaining and inspecting fire protection systems.
• Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and compliance requirements relating to fire protection systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of Fire Technicians to ensure safe and effective execution of maintenance activities.
• Manage planned inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, and system testing programs.
• Oversee the inspection, testing, maintenance, and performance of fire water systems, hydrants, deluge systems, and alarm/monitoring equipment.
• Conduct field inspections and verify fire safety controls are in place and functioning effectively.
• Coordinate internal and external audits and manage specialist contractors and regulatory inspections.

About the Role

Reporting to the Utilities Superintendent, you will provide day-to-day leadership, technical oversight, and coordination of all fire protection activities across site. You will play a critical role in ensuring fire systems are maintained to the highest standard while supporting safe and efficient mining operations.

Please note: This role is permanent full time on 8/6 roster

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of Fire Technicians to ensure safe and effective execution of maintenance activities.


• Manage planned inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, and system testing programs.


• Oversee the inspection, testing, maintenance, and performance of:


• Fire water supply systems, including pumps, tanks, instrumentation and valves.


• Hydrants, hose reels and deluge systems.


• Fire Indication Panels, VESDA systems, smoke detectors, alarm systems, and remote monitoring systems.


• Fixed fire suppression systems, including inert gas and CO₂ systems.


• Conduct field inspections and verify fire safety controls are in place and functioning effectively.


• Identify system deficiencies, initiate corrective actions, and monitor completion through SAP.


• Support the commissioning, modification, and decommissioning of fire protection systems associated with new and existing infrastructure.


• Coordinate internal and external compliance audits and regulatory inspections.


• Manage specialist contractors and ensure work is completed in accordance with site requirements.


• Maintain accurate compliance records in line with Australian Standards and legislative obligations.


• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.

About You

You are a proactive leader with a strong technical background in fire protection systems and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. You enjoy working collaboratively with stakeholders and are confident managing both people and contractors in a remote mining environment.

• Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.


• WA A Class Electrical Licence (Desirable but not essential)


• LVR and CPR certification.


• White Card.


• First Aid Certificate.


• Demonstrated experience maintaining and inspecting fire protection systems.


• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and statutory compliance requirements relating to fire protection systems.


• Previous supervisory or leadership experience.


• Desirable Qualifications


• Certificate II or III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing.


• High Risk Work Licence (Forklift and/or Elevated Work Platform).


• Working at Heights certification.


• Confined Space certification.


• Hot Work and Fire Extinguisher training.


• Experience within mining, resources, industrial, or remote site environments.

Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold.
