Job summary

Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) is seeking an experienced Studio Supervisor to lead safe Grip and Lighting operations across studios and sets. You will oversee equipment bookings, crew scheduling and maintenance, and provide technical advice to students and staff.

The role reports to the Head of Production Operations, focusing on WHS and best practice, with responsibility for budgeting and supervising the Equipment Store Officer. Occasional after-hours work may be required.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience and knowledge of film and/or television production processes.
• Experience in managing and operating Grip and Lighting equipment.
• Substantial knowledge of industry safety requirements and WHS practices.
• Experience supervising a small team with high-volume workload and multiple stakeholders.
• Proven problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills with students and staff.
• Excellent communication and collaborative approach.
• Experience using resource management software and booking systems; budget forecasting.
• Experience fostering culturally and psychologically safe work environments.

Responsibilities

• WHS: ensure safety processes are followed in studios and sets; maintain SWMS.
• Provide Grip and Lighting instruction, advice and support to students and staff.
• Oversee equipment bookings and staff allocation in partnership with the Timetabling Resource Coordinator.
• Supervise maintenance and stocktakes of Grip and Lighting equipment.
• Advise on budget requirements and CAPEX/OPEX purchases as needed.
• Attend pre-delivery, feasibility and final production meetings; contribute technical input.
• Assist in setup and operation of Grip and Lighting equipment as required.
• Maintain clean and safe studios in collaboration with facilities.
• Undertake additional duties; occasional night/weekend work may be required.
