Job summary

The Islamic College of Brisbane is seeking a dedicated Student Support Coordinator to provide practical, school-wide support for Primary and Secondary students, focusing on behaviour, wellbeing, attendance and engagement within a Muslim ethos.

You will coordinate interventions, support staff and families, maintain accurate records and collaborate with College teams to promote positive outcomes for students across Prep to Year 12.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary or vocational qualification in Education, Youth Work, Community Services, Behaviour Support, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting children or young people with behaviour, wellbeing, attendance or engagement concerns, preferably in a school setting.
• Ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, families and staff.
• Experience responding calmly to challenging behaviour and difficult situations.
• Strong organisation and record-keeping while protecting confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Support the consistent application of student behaviour policies across Prep to Year 12.
• Respond to behaviour referrals and work with students on self-regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Identify wellbeing and engagement concerns and refer for specialist intervention as needed.
• Support attendance and engagement concerns, liaising with families and staff.
• Coordinate an allocated caseload, including student support plans and interventions.
• Provide guidance to teachers and collaborate with College teams to support students.
• Build constructive relationships with families and communicate about student wellbeing.
• Maintain accurate student records and monitor escalation of safety concerns.

Job description

The Student Support Coordinator is a specialist full-time term-time role providing practical and responsive support to Primary and Secondary School students, with a focus on behaviour, wellbeing, attendance and engagement. Working as part of the Student Wellbeing and Support Team, the role works collaboratively with students, staff and families to address barriers to learning, coordinate appropriate interventions and promote positive behaviour, resilience and engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

Support the consistent application of student behaviour policies across Prep to Year 12, using fair, age-appropriate and restorative approaches.

Respond to behaviour referrals and work with students to develop self-regulation, conflict resolution and positive behaviour strategies.

Identify student wellbeing and engagement concerns, provide early support and refer matters requiring specialist or senior intervention.

Support students with attendance, punctuality and school engagement concerns, working with families and relevant staff to address barriers.

Coordinate an allocated caseload, including student support plans, case meetings, interventions and follow-up.

Provide practical guidance to teachers and collaborate with College teams to support students across Primary and Secondary.

Build constructive relationships with families and communicate about student behaviour, wellbeing, attendance and engagement.

Maintain accurate student records, monitor emerging patterns and escalation significant safety, welfare or behavioural concerns.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Relevant tertiary or vocational qualification in Education, Youth Work, Community Services, Behaviour Support, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or a related discipline.

Experience supporting children or young people with behaviour, wellbeing, attendance or engagement concerns, preferably in a school or related setting.

Ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, families and staff.

Experience responding calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour and difficult situations.

Strong communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.

Sound judgement, including knowing when to escalation concerns and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Strong organisation, record-keeping and follow-through while managing competing priorities and protecting confidentiality.

Ability to work independently and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, with cultural awareness and a commitment to the College’s Islamic ethos.

A current Blue Card, or eligibility to obtain one.
