Job summary

TAFE Queensland is seeking a Student Counsellor to deliver specialised career guidance and confidential counselling to current students. The role includes advocating for students with special needs and coordinating access to resources and services across campuses.

You will report to the Director of Educational Support Services, based mainly at Cairns campus, with potential duties at other campuses. This is a permanent, full-time position requiring a bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology or Social Work.
• Driver’s Licence.
• Two years’ experience in community/educational settings desirable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Outlook).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide psycho/social/educational crisis counselling to students experiencing distress and assess risk.
• Provide course and pre-course counselling and advise on financial access to Vocational programs.
• Liaise with teachers, managers and staff to deliver vocational and career advisory services.
• Advocate on behalf of students regarding rules and appeals processes.
• Support staff in managing student learning and skill development programs.
