Job summary

Downer is seeking an accomplished Manager HSE Western Region to provide strategic health, safety and environmental leadership across its Western Region operations. You will partner with operational leaders to improve HSE performance, drive governance, and embed continuous improvement while supporting complex projects across Australia.

Travel to project sites, including remote locations, is a requirement. The role reports to the Head of HSEQ Industrial and Energy and focuses on safeguarding

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
• Professional HSE certification.
• ICAM Lead Investigator qualification or equivalent.
• Lead Auditor qualification highly regarded.
• Current driver’s licence.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior HSE leadership roles within high risk industries.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience leading assurance, compliance and governance programs.
• Demonstrated capability in critical risk management and incident investigation.
• Experience supporting contractor management and operational project delivery.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Experience using data analytics, Power BI and digital solutions to support decision making.

Responsibilities

• Partner with operational leaders to implement and continually improve HSE strategies and initiatives.
• Provide strategic advice on HSE risks, legislative compliance and business performance.
• Lead assurance programs including audits, inspections, verifications and management reviews.
• Support critical risk management and verification of control effectiveness.
• Lead significant incident investigations and drive effective corrective actions.
• Develop HSE capability through coaching, mentoring and leadership support.
• Monitor performance through data analytics, reporting and digital tools.
• Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, contractors and industry stakeholders.
