Job summary

Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is offering a live-on-island kitchen hand role on Daydream Island, Whitsundays. You will support the kitchen by maintaining cleanliness, washing dishes, and assisting with stewarding duties in a fast-paced hospitality setting.

Ideal candidates will have prior stewarding or kitchen hand experience, strong teamwork and communication, and the fitness to stand for long shifts on a remote island location.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar stewarding, kitchen hand, or hospitality role is preferred.
• A basic understanding of kitchen equipment, utensils, and cleaning procedures.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Physically fit, with the stamina to stand for extended periods and safely lift and move heavy items.
• A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take direction from senior kitchen staff.
• Reliable, hardworking, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation of the kitchen and related areas.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans by hand and using commercial dishwashing equipment.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment and appliances are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
• Empty rubbish and recycling bins regularly to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
• Store clean equipment, utensils, and kitchen items in their designated areas.
• Follow all workplace health, safety, and food hygiene procedures at all times.
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure an efficient workflow and positive working environment.
• Report any maintenance issues, equipment faults, or repair requirements to the Kitchen Manager or Supervisor.
• Assist the kitchen team with general cleaning and stewarding duties as required.
