Job summary

Canva is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer for Performance Monitoring to design, build, and maintain metrics-driven tooling across client and server boundaries. You’ll work on lightweight SDKs, dashboards, and CI/PR checks surfacing core performance signals such as LCP, INP, and CLS, while embedding OpenTelemetry standards across billions of events daily.

You’ll collaborate with platform and infra teams, deploy no-merge-if-slower checks, and investigate systemic bottlenecks using Chrome DevTools

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain lightweight SDKs, dashboards, and CI/PR checks surface key performance metrics (LCP, INP, CLS).
• Embed OpenTelemetry standards and extend data pipelines ingesting billions of real-user events daily.
• Partner with platform and infra teams to enable low-overhead metric collection and reusable tooling.
• Launch no-merge-if-slower checks and provide developer-friendly diff reports.
• Run end-to-end investigations to profile and eliminate bottlenecks using Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, etc.
• Mine real-user and synthetic data to surface high-ROI fixes in monitoring tools.
