Job summary

Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in the DevX group to own critical infrastructure and developer-facing products that impact Canva's backend engineers. You’ll work across three domains—Backend Developer Workflows, Automation Pipeline, and Build & Collaboration—driving improvements in CI/CD, tooling, and operator experiences.

Your work will focus on high-leverage projects that reduce build and test times, improve Python/Java workflows, automate releases, and empower teams to move faster

Qualifications

• Experience in Platform Engineering or backend software engineering with hands-on Python and/or Java
• Proven track record of building and operating production backend systems, developer tooling, or internal platforms at scale
• Experience supporting large engineering organizations of 1,000+ engineers
• Strong experience with AWS or GCP
• Thorough Kubernetes experience in production environments
• Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines at scale (Buildkite/Jenkins/GitLab CI)
• Experience with Bazel, Gradle or similar monorepo build tools
• Understanding of modern Python or JVM development workflows including dependency management, testing, packaging, debugging, and IDE integration
• Implemented comprehensive monitoring, logging, telemetry, and alerting
• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation)

Responsibilities

• Owns end-to-end technical solutions across multiple systems and languages
• Builds developer-facing tools and automation to reduce manual work
• Develops monitoring, telemetry, and diagnostic tools for proactive issue detection
• Collaborates with backend, platform, and infrastructure teams to gather requirements
• Translates developer needs and business goals into scalable solutions
• Maintains and improves CI/CD pipelines, releases, and deployment safety
• Shares knowledge through documentation and tech talks
