Sportsbet Pty Ltd in Melbourne seeks a seasoned Comedy Writer and Creative to shape the voice of Sportsbet and craft entertaining, culturally relevant content for sports fans.

You will move between a blank page and finished entertainment, generate ideas, write punchy copy, craft scripts, and help create content that stands out in a crowded sports landscape.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years experience in comedy writing across advertising, entertainment, digital media, social content, publishing or performance.
• Ability to write in different comedic styles—from one-liners to sketches and social-first humour.
• Curiosity for trends, internet culture, memes, and how fans consume sport.
• Deep expertise across social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X) with performance focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creative process from concept and scripting through to production, editing and final delivery.
• Spot opportunities across live sport, breaking news, trending moments and internet culture, turning them into content quickly.
• Collaborate with creatives, producers, designers, marketers, influencers and talent to create integrated campaigns.
• Contribute to a high-performing creative culture through idea sharing and constructive feedback.
• Maintain high quality and a strong, entertaining voice for Sportsbet’s audience.

About The Role

As our Sports Comedy Writer and Creative, you'll help shape the voice of Sportsbet and create entertaining, culturally relevant content that sports fans love.

This role is for a comedy-minded storyteller who lives and breathes sport (particularly AFL), understands what makes fans laugh, and knows how to turn a match moment, sporting rivalry, headline, or fan behaviour into content people want to share. Working across campaigns, social content, video, and brand storytelling, you’ll develop big ideas, write sharp scripts, and collaborate with creatives, producers, and sporting talent to bring comedy-led concepts to life.

This is a role for someone who can move between a blank page and a finished piece of entertainment: generating ideas, writing punchy copy, crafting scripts, and helping create content that cuts through in a crowded sports landscape. You'll bring a strong creative point of view, champion big ideas and help raise the bar across the team, ensuring Sportsbet continues to lead the pack as Australia's most entertaining sports brand.

About You

While we are big on development and offer on the job training, we want to set you up for success. Along with a great attitude, it would be ideal that you have:

• 5-7+ years experience of comedy writing background, whether from advertising, entertainment, digital media, social content, publishing, or performance.
• A natural sense of humour and the ability to write in different comedic styles — from sharp one-liners and satire to character-driven sketches and social-first humour.
• A curiosity for trends, internet culture, memes, and emerging ways fans consume sport.
• Deep expertise across social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X, with a strong understanding of what drives performance.
• Experience leveraging AI and emerging creative tools to produce engaging, reactive and culturally relevant content.

You’re essentially obsessed with creating content people genuinely want to watch, share and talk about and know how to balance speed, quality and creativity.
