Job summary

Yarrabee Mine, part of Yancoal Australia, is seeking a Specialist Operator at Blackwater, QLD. The role focuses on safe operation and maintenance of heavy mobile equipment to support production targets and site safety.

You will work as part of a cohesive team, maintain multiple machines, and contribute to continuous improvement while following Coal Mining Safety & Health Act requirements. Queensland driver’s licence and induction compliance are expected.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience operating Dozers, Watercarts, Graders & Haul Trucks in mining or heavy industry.
• Thorough understanding of Coal Mining Safety & Health Act and related regulations.
• Strong communication skills in a mining environment.
• Hazard identification and responsive safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy mobile equipment safely and efficiently to achieve production targets.
• Maintain competency across multiple machinery types and comply with site requirements.
• Identify, report and control workplace hazards to support safety.
• Adhere to safety procedures, risk assessments and statutory requirements.
• Inspect plant and equipment and report defects timely.
• Care for machinery to minimise damage and maintain clean work areas.
• Support and mentor team members and participate in safety meetings.
• Contribute to improving site performance and communicate recommendations.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The role will require you to:

• Operate heavy mobile equipment safely and efficiently to achieve production targets and maximise equipment utilisation.
• Maintain competency across multiple machinery types and perform operating duties in line with site requirements.
• Identify, report and assist in controlling workplace hazards to support a safe working environment.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, risk assessments, safe work practices and statutory requirements.
• Perform regular plant and equipment inspections and report equipment defects or maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
• Take ownership of plant and equipment care, ensuring machinery is operated responsibly and damage is minimised.
• Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas, including operational, crib and access areas, and dispose of waste in accordance with site environmental requirements.
• Contribute positively to a team environment by supporting, mentoring and assisting fellow team members where required.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks and training initiatives to continuously improve site performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and communicate recommendations to supervisors.

Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of Dozers, Watercarts, Graders & Haul Trucks within a mining or heavy industry environment
• Thorough understanding of individual responsibilities in relation to the Coal MiningSafety & Health Act and associated regulations.
• Sound communication skills within a mining environment
• Skilled in hazard identification and responsive to safety issues
• Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a company culture
• Applicable Coal Competencies - signed by SSE/Delegate
• Current Standard 11 Mine Induction (Surface)
• Maintain and possess a current Queensland Driver's licence
