Job summary

BHP’s Caval Ridge operation in Queensland seeks a Specialist Engineer—Drill and Blast to design blast patterns, develop and manage drill and blast schedules, and align activities with the mine plan.

You will work with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology and Survey teams, using Blastlogic, Vulcan and Deswik to optimise fragmentation, productivity and costs. Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off, Day Shift.

Qualifications

• Mining Engineering or related qualifications.
• Drill and blast design experience.
• Experience with mine planning software and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design blast patterns including hole spacing, burden and explosive loads to achieve desired fragmentation.
• Develop and manage drill and blast schedules to support short and medium-term mine plan.
• Coordinate with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology and Survey to align activities with targets.
• Monitor blast performance, analyse results and implement improvements to maximise productivity and minimise cost.
• Ensure safety and compliance related to explosives, blasting practices and field activities.

About The Role

Caval Ridge is in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.

At Caval Ridge specifically, the role sits within the Mine Scheduling team and works closely with Operations, Mine Planning, and Integrated Planning teams to produce and execute drill and blast plans while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role is a technical engineering position rather than a frontline supervisory role. Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off; Day Shift.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designing blast patterns including hole spacing, burden, stemming and explosive loads to achieve the desired fragmentation.
• Developing and managing drill and blast schedules to support the short and medium-term mine plan.
• Working closely with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology and Survey teams to ensure drill and blast activities align with production targets.
• Monitoring blast performance and conducting reconciliations, analysing results and implementing improvements to maximise productivity and minimise cost.
• Managing safety and compliance requirements related to explosives, blasting practices and field activities.
• Using mine planning and design software such as Blastlogic, Vulcan, Deswik, and scheduling tools to create and optimise drill and blast plans.

About You

• Mining Engineering or related qualifications.
• Drill and blast desiSgn experience.
• Experience with mine planning software and data analysis.
