Job summary

BHP is seeking a Specialist Engineer - Drill and Blast based in the Bowen Basin (Queensland) on a day shift, 8 days on, 6 days off. You will design blast patterns, develop schedules, and work with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology and Survey teams to align with production targets.

The role requires mining engineering qualifications, drill and blast design experience, and proficiency with blast design software.

Responsibilities

  • Designing blast patterns including hole spacing, burden, stemming and explosive loads to achieve the desired fragmentation.
  • Developing and managing drill and blast schedules to support the short and medium-term mine plan.
  • Working closely with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology and Survey teams to ensure drill and blast activities align with production targets.
  • Monitoring blast performance and conducting reconciliations, analysing results and implementing improvements to maximise productivity and minimise cost.
  • Managing safety and compliance requirements related to explosives, blasting practices and field activities.

Caval Ridge is in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.

At Caval Ridge specifically, the role sits within the Mine Scheduling team and works closely with Operations, Mine Planning, and Integrated Planning teams to produce and execute drill and blast plans while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role is a technical engineering position rather than a frontline supervisory role. Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off; Day Shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mining Engineering or related qualifications.
