Job summary

Capalaba Sports Club is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team in a full-time capacity. This leadership role supports the Head Chef, maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and safety in a busy 250-seat venue.

You will lead a dedicated kitchen team, manage stock, costing and menu planning, and ensure smooth service across all sections, including grill, pans and larder, while fostering a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Sous Chef or senior Chef de Partie ready to take next step.
• Current Food Safety certificate and relevant trade qualifications.
• Strong leadership and ability to motivate a kitchen team.
• Excellent time management, organisation and problem solving.
• High standards of food safety, cleanliness and kitchen hygiene.
• Experience with stock control, stocktake, food costing and menu planning.
• Experience assisting with staff rostering and workforce planning.
• Ability to lead a service confidently during busy periods.
• Experience across all sections: grill, pans and larder.
• High-volume catering experience.

Responsibilities

We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team in a full time capacity. This is a key leadership role supporting our Head Chef and kitchen operations ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, service and food safety.

With a 250-seat restaurant and multipurpose function room, this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated chef who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to be part of a strong, supportive team.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

• Proven experience as a Sous Chef in a similar role or a strong Chef de Partie ready to take the next step in their career
• Relevant trade qualifications and a current Food Safety certificate
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and support a kitchen team
• Excellent time management, organisation and problem-solving skills
• High standards of food safety, cleanliness and kitchen hygiene
• A strong attention to detail and commitment to consistently delivering quality food in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with food ordering, stock control, stocktake, food costing and menu planning
• Experience assisting with staff rostering and workforce planning
• The ability to confidently lead a service and maintain standards during busy periods
• Experience across all sections, including grill, pans and larder
• Function and high-volume catering experience
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
• A positive, professional attitude with the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
