Job summary

The University of Newcastle is seeking a Solution Architect to design and deliver scalable IT solutions aligned with enterprise strategy. You will lead cloud, integration, cybersecurity, and data services initiatives across the university.

Based at Callaghan, this full-time HEW 8 role involves engaging with senior stakeholders, guiding DevOps and Delivery teams, and shaping IT governance and security standards to support academic and research objectives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect with enterprise integration expertise.
  • Proven ability to align IT strategy with business needs and enterprise systems.
  • Strong knowledge of integration patterns: API-led, event-driven, data synchronization.
  • Experience with cloud computing and cybersecurity.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.

The Role

As a Solution Architect, you will:



  • Design and develop scalable, secure, and innovative IT solutions that align with enterprise strategy and business needs.

  • Lead the architecture and integration of cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, and cybersecurity frameworks.

  • Collaborate with DevOps, Engineering, and Delivery teams to ensure seamless implementation.

  • Provide expert technical guidance to senior stakeholders and present at steering committees.

  • Conduct solution impact analysis to drive informed decision-making and establish IT priorities.

  • Develop and enforce IT policies, standards, and security protocols to maintain compliance and best practices.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance system performance and agility


This continuing position is full time at a HEW 8 Higher Education Worker level and is based at Callaghan


What you’ll bring


  • Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect ideally with deep expertise in enterprise integration

  • Proven experience in solution architecture, enterprise systems, and IT strategy alignment.

  • A strong understanding of logical and physical integration patterns including

  • API led integration

  • Event driven architectures

  • Messaging and data synchronisation

  • Strong expertise in cloud computing, SaaS, systems integration, cybersecurity, and data services.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills to drive impactful IT decisions.

  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • A commitment to best practices in IT governance, security, and compliance
