About the Role

The Solution Architect role is a key position within the IT Unit. The Solution Architect will be responsible for designing and delivering effective technology solutions that align with UTS's strategic goals and enterprise architecture framework. This role requires a deep understanding of business requirements, technical expertise, and the ability to translate them into scalable and robust solutions.

A Day in the Life of a Solution Architect at UTS

The architectural landscape at UTS is broad, complex and quickly evolving. Solution Architects will typically be aligned to particular business‑focused or architecture‑focused domains (e.g. business, information, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, security etc). For the currently advertised role, the position holder will work in the Cloud and Infrastructure – Faculty Specialist Systems domain. Key technologies for this domain are outlined below. While it is not essential to be an expert in all these technologies, familiarity with some of them is beneficial:

  • Cloud Infrastructure & Platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Service Management (ServiceNow)
  • Enterprise Observability (New Relic)
  • Identity Security & Governance (Entra, Okta & Sailpoint)
  • Enterprise Storage (Dell PowerScale)
  • DevOps & CI/CD Tools (GitHub, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Data Networking

While the technologies above are the foundation of our infrastructure, this role will be predominately focused on supporting our Faculties, which each have very specialised needs and use a wide range of technologies. This means that the position holder will work closely with the business stakeholders (GMs, Heads of Schools, and their teams), our IT Business Partners, and the technical Faculty Specialist team to define, design, and deliver solutions. In this role, your ability to build relationships, collaborate across teams, and communicate complex ideas clearly is just as important as your technical expertise.

About You
  • Experience working as a Solution, Technology, Infrastructure or Cloud Architect, Technical Lead or in a similar role is valuable, particularly in complex organisational settings.
  • An understanding of enterprise architecture principles, frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), modelling techniques and solution design methodologies. Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, SAFe, or similar are a plus but not required.
  • Technical knowledge in areas such as IT infrastructure, cloud, integration, information and data management, security, or business applications.
  • Experience in designing and implementing solutions using industry‑standard technologies and platforms.
  • Proficiency in creating architectural artifacts, such as architecture models, specifications, and design patterns.
  • Awareness of security and compliance considerations in solution design.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess complex requirements and translate them into practical solution designs.
  • Interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience working collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.

We recognise that qualified candidates, particularly women, may not apply unless they feel they meet 100% of the listed qualifications.
