Job summary

Howden Insurance Brokers Australia is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to Howden Bridge, the online quote-and-bind platform, and to help shape the technical direction across multiple teams in a growing global organisation.

The role offers hands-on development across the full lifecycle, with ownership from design through testing and release. You will collaborate with Operations, Broking, Underwriting and Architecture to deliver scalable, secure digital insurance solutions.

• Investigate and resolve production issues and defects.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and improve engineering standards.
• Contribute to the longer-term technical roadmap for Bridge and related products.

The opportunity

We're growing our Broking Operations team and are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help drive the ongoing development of Howden Bridge, our online quote-and-bind platform, as we continue to expand our digital insurance capability.

This is a hands-on role with real scope to shape the technical direction of Bridge, working closely with Operations, Broking, Underwriting, Solutions and Architecture teams to turn business requirements into practical technology solutions.

This role will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of software development across Howden Bridge, from solution design through to development, testing and release.

Responsibilities will include:

• Developing new features, products, integrations and enhancements that support Howden's digital distribution strategy.
• Working closely with Operations, Broking, Underwriting, Solutions and Architecture teams to turn business requirements into practical technology solutions.
• Designing secure, scalable, reliable and user-friendly solutions.
• Investigating and resolving complex production issues and defects.
• Providing technical guidance to other engineers and helping improve engineering standards and development practices.
• Contributing to the longer‑term technical roadmap for Bridge and associated digital products.

• Have strong commercial software development experience across the full development lifecycle.

• Have a good understanding of software architecture, security and development best practice.
• Have insurance, financial services or regulated‑industry experience – advantageous but not essential.
