Job summary

Howden Insurance Brokers (Australia) is seeking a commercially minded Compliance Manager to strengthen the ARMS compliance framework and embed a proactive compliance culture across the Australian business. You will work with leadership and operations to translate complex regulations into practical, risk-based controls and reporting.

About the Role

Reporting into the Regional General Counsel & Company Secretary, Legal and Compliance function, you will have the opportunity to help shape and implement practical compliance frameworks across the business. Working closely with leadership and operational teams, you will provide trusted advice, strengthen assurance and reporting, and help ensure compliance is embedded in everyday decision‑making. This role will suit someone who enjoys combining strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery and wants to see the tangible impact of their work. Howden has a subsidiary (ARMS) that provides risk management solutions to its client, such as discretionary mutual trusts. This role will sit wholly within the ARMS business, with potential scope to provide support for the broader business.

Maintain and support the ARMS compliance framework, ensuring it remains current, practical and aligned to regulatory obligations and governance expectations. Develop and monitor compliance assurance activity, including reviews, control testing, breach management, remediation and action tracking. Prepare clear compliance reporting for senior management, committees and governance forums. Partner with stakeholders to identify compliance risks and implement practical, risk‑based solutions. Support the uplift of compliance documentation, policies, procedures, registers and business processes. Monitor regulatory change and assess the impact on operations, documentation and controls. Provide practical guidance and education to support compliance awareness and ownership across the business.

About you

You are a confident and practical compliance professional who builds trusted relationships and brings clarity to complex issues. You will be comfortable constructively challenging stakeholders, working through detail and driving actions through to resolution. Compliance experience within a regulated environment, ideally within insurance, financial services, funds management, trustee, superannuation or a similar environment. Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, assurance planning, governance reporting, breach management and control testing. Experience and knowledge of AFSL obligations and regulatory reporting requirements. Experience or the ability to prepare compliance reports, issue summaries, action plans and recommendations. Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical business processes and controls. Commercial, pragmatic and solutions‑focused, while maintaining strong professional judgement and independence. Confident communicator with the ability to influence, educate and constructively challenge stakeholders. Highly organised, proactive and comfortable working in an environment where frameworks, processes and documentation are being uplifted.
