Job summary

CEA Technologies is seeking an SMA Operator to join the Surface Mount Assembly team in Canberra. You will operate the SMT Line to build and inspect circuit boards, perform kit checks, and ensure quality standards are met.

On-the-job training will be provided, with opportunities to grow within a defence-focused electronics environment. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and enjoy team collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Meticulous attention to detail and precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Willingness to learn electronics and pick up new concepts.
  • Knowledge of electronic components identification and measurement techniques.
  • Experience with SMT equipment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the SMT Line to produce high-quality circuit boards.
  • Assist with Automated Optical Inspection operations.
  • Adhere to CEA quality standards in all tasks.
  • Assist with Printed Circuit Assembly when required.
  • Operate and maintain SMT machinery for reliable output.
  • Contribute to process and system improvements.

Job description

CEA is an Australian Commonwealth company that designs, develops, manufactures and sustains advanced active phased array radar systems. The company’s design principles and commitment to investment in research and development ensures innovative thinking, technological skill, and quality fabrication.

Our programs include the ANZAC and Hunter Class frigates and air defence applications for Army and Air Force, and Range applications. Through our longstanding and ongoing collaboration with Defence, CEA Technologies has undertaken research and development into all aspects of active electronically scanned array technologies. This has resulted in the creation of a highly modular and scalable product suite, which have become integral to a wide range of critical Defence capabilities.

The Position

We are looking for a hands-on, electronics and production enthusiast to join our Surface Mount Assembly (SMA) Team.

As an SMA Operator you will, operate the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Line to build electronic circuit boards, perform kit checks and inspect circuit boards produced by the SMT Line against quality standards.

This position is perfect for someone who has a genuine interest in electronics and assembly. If you have brilliant attention to detail, a strong work ethic and enjoy working within a team, this could be the perfect role for you! All necessary machinery training will be provided on the Job.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate the SMT Line to provide high quality circuit boards.

Assist with Automated Optical Inspection operation.

Be aware of and operate within CEA’s quality standards.

Assist with Printed Circuit Assembly when required.

Operate and maintain all SMT machines.

Contribute to process and system improvements.

Perform other related duties as required

Our Ideal Candidate

Meticulous attention to detail, ability to maintain focus and sound hand/eye coordination skills.

Desire and ability to learn electronics and pick up new concepts.

Good knowledge of electronic component Identification and measuring techniques.

Experience or knowledge of DEK Stencil Printers, Yamaha pick and place machines, VP6000 reflow ovens,

Experience or knowledge of SMS Line control.

An understanding of Electrostatic Discharge Control (ESD) and Moisture Sensitive Devices (MSD) practices.

Experience using programmable equipment/machinery is preferred but not required

Electronics background is preferred but not required

Eligible to obtain and maintain an AGSVA clearance – Negative Vetting 1
