Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Blackwood Projects is seeking an experienced Site Supervisor to lead university refurbishments, office fitouts and other demanding projects in Brisbane. Your strong commercial carpentry background will guide the team, resolve details and control site delivery in occupied environments.
Based in Brisbane, you will plan look‑ahead schedules, coordinate trades and communicate with clients, consultants and staff to minimise disruption while maintaining safety and quality throughout each project.
Looking for more than just another construction job? At Blackwood Projects, you will work on interesting projects, with good people and clients who value quality, reliability and practical problem-solving.
We are a Brisbane-based commercial builder established in 2014, delivering refurbishments, fitouts and construction works across education, government, heritage, civic and commercial sectors. Our projects include university upgrades, occupied office fitouts and improvements to valued community facilities - work that requires thought, care and attention to detail.
We are proud of the relationships we have built with repeat clients, including universities and government organisations. Just as importantly, we value the people who make those relationships possible. Our team includes Project Managers, supervisors, qualified carpenters and apprentices, working together to deliver work we can stand behind.
We are looking for an experienced Site Supervisor to lead university refurbishments, office fitouts and other technically demanding projects. The right person will bring exceptional attention to detail, confident communication at every level, disciplined forward planning and the technical carpentry expertise to guide our team. These are the qualities that matter most in this appointment.
Attention to detail and quality - you see what others miss, understand finish tolerances and address issues before they become defects.
Communication at every level - you can manage client expectations professionally and give clear, respectful direction to subcontractors, carpenters, apprentices and labourers.
Forward planning and adaptability - you build realistic look-ahead schedules, coordinate resources and services, anticipate constraints and re-sequence work when circumstances change.
Technical commercial carpentry leadership - you have deep practical expertise in steel stud framing, suspended ceilings, partitions and fitout detailing, and can coach others to deliver it properly.
Occupied-building coordination - you understand how to plan works around staff, students and tenants, managing access, noise, dust, shutdowns and communications to minimise disruption.
Confident digital administration - you use Outlook, electronic drawings, site records and construction software as everyday management tools.
Varied, meaningful work - no repetitive volume housing or purely domestic construction
Established clients and interesting projects across universities, commercial workplaces and community facilities
A capable in-house carpentry team to lead, support and develop
A collaborative team culture built on trust, problem-solving, teamwork and pride in our work
Genuine responsibility and autonomy, with support from experienced Project Managers
Ongoing learning and opportunities to contribute to the development of our business
This is primarily a site leadership and coordination role - not a full-time on-the-tools position. You will take ownership of day-to-day delivery, plan several steps ahead, coordinate trades and communicate effectively with everyone involved. Your strong commercial carpentry background will allow you to guide our team, resolve details and step in occasionally when hands-on technical input is needed.
Many of our projects take place in occupied university buildings and operational workplaces. Success means delivering a quality finished product while protecting the people and activities around the work - through careful staging, clear communication, safe access and minimal disruption.
Plan and manage daily site activities, look-ahead programmes, labour requirements, deliveries and subcontractor sequencing
Anticipate constraints, coordinate building services and adjust plans confidently when conditions change
Lead our in-house carpentry team, particularly on steel stud framing, partitions, suspended ceilings and fitout works
Mentor apprentices and developing tradespeople, setting clear standards for safety, productivity and workmanship
Coordinate with clients, consultants, building managers, occupants, subcontractors and labourers - communicating clearly at every level
Interpret drawings, resolve technical details and identify quality issues early
Manage works in sensitive, occupied environments with particular attention to access, noise, dust, service interruptions and stakeholder expectations
Maintain site safety, quality and environmental requirements, records, daily diaries and progress reporting
Use Microsoft Outlook, electronic drawings and construction management software to manage information and keep the team informed
Trade-qualified carpenter with substantial experience in commercial fitouts and refurbishments
Proven site supervision skills and the ability to independently coordinate multiple trades and priorities
Excellent technical knowledge of commercial framing, ceilings, partitions and associated fitout detailing
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills - equally comfortable with clients, consultants and site crews
Exceptional attention to detail and pride in the quality of the finished product
Strong forward planning, scheduling and organisational skills, balanced with adaptability and practical problem-solving
Confidence with Microsoft Outlook, digital documentation and construction management software
A genuine interest in leading and mentoring younger team members
Current driver’s licence and relevant construction industry inductions
Experience on university, education, government or occupied commercial projects will be highly regarded.
A permanent full-time role, $115,000-$140,000 per annum plus superannuation depending on experience, varied projects around Brisbane, a supportive team and the opportunity to take real ownership of your work. We are looking for someone who wants to make a long-term contribution and grow with the business.
