Job summary

Elm Building Group in Canberra seeks an experienced Site Manager to lead commercial construction sites, ensuring safety, quality and on‑time delivery. You will manage day‑to‑day operations, coordinate subcontractors and resources, and drive progress against the program.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years on-site supervision of commercial builds, strong reading of drawings and specs, WHS expertise, and proven leadership with clients and trades.

Qualifications

• At least five years' experience in site management or construction supervision in a commercial setting.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and project programs.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards and WHS practices.
• Coordinate multiple trades and maintain high standards of workmanship.
• Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and to issues.
• Clear communication and confident leadership with clients and subcontractors.
• Experience with construction management software and MS Office.

We are seeking an experienced Site Manager for commercial construction projects who takes pride in their work and can lead safe, well‑organised and productive construction sites. Your first project will be a high-profile commercial construction project that is ready to commence.

About the role

You will manage day‑to‑day site operations, coordinate subcontractors and resources, and drive delivery against the construction program. Working closely with our management team, you will maintain high standards of safety and workmanship, resolve site challenges, and keep stakeholders informed.

This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who plans ahead, communicates clearly and takes ownership of site outcomes.

What we’re looking for

• At least five years’ experience in site management or construction supervision in a commercial setting, with demonstrated responsibility for delivering building projects.
• Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and project programs.
• Sound knowledge of applicable building requirements, Australian Standards and site WHS practices.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple trades and maintain high standards of workmanship.
• Practical problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to anticipate issues.
• Clear communication and confident leadership, with a professional approach to clients and subcontractors.
• Competence with construction management software and Microsoft Office.
• A current driver’s licence, White Card, and completed asbestos and silica awareness training.
