Job summary

1673 ACCIONA CONSTRUCTION AUSTRALIA PTY LTD – Sydney NSW is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2 project. You will contribute to design integration, safety, quality, and sustainability on a major infrastructure program.

The role demands experience in excavation or underground construction, strong coordination with project teams, and the ability to manage costs, schedules, and reporting to meet delivery targets in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a similar role.
• Proven experience in excavation or underground construction projects.
• Experience working on major Sydney road / tunnel infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, safety standards, and quality management systems.
• Ability to manage costs, productivity measures, and reporting requirements.
• Excellent communication and liaison skills with clients, supervisors, and project teams.
• Commitment to workplace health, safety, and sustainability principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage safety, construction, and quality documentation (SWMS, ITPs, procedures, permits).
• Administer contract works ensuring compliance with Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.
• Manage permits, approvals, and ensure daily site activities align with design and specifications.
• Support planning, execution, and handover of project deliverables within time, cost, and quality targets.
• Assist with procurement, purchase orders, and material traceability.
• Track costs, monitor productivity, and prepare accurate daily/weekly/monthly reports.
• Contribute to look-ahead planning, scheduling, and coordination with supervisors and project teams.
• Undertake audits, maintain registers, and ensure Quality Management System compliance.
• Record and report daily progress, delays, variations, and subcontractor activities.
• Participate in inductions, pre-start meetings, and promote company policies and code of conduct.

Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

• Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
• Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
• Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway
