Job summary

Focus Minerals Limited in Western Australia is seeking a Senior Geologist for Open Pits to join our site-based team on an 8/6 roster. Reporting to the Superintendent: Geologist, you will oversee grade control activities and ensure fit-for-purpose workflows to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution.

The role requires mentoring a team of mine geologists, delivering precise geological data to guide mining strategies, and contributing to the planning and execution of ongoing projects.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or equivalent.
• Extensive experience as a geologist within an open pit gold mining operation.
• Ability to mentor junior geologists and manage a small team.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and mining software such as Datamine and Leapfrog.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Ensure the quality of geological data collection for downstream resource and reconciliation functions.
• Develop, implement and maintain systems and processes to streamline workflows.
• Contribute to the weekly, monthly and yearly scheduling and planning of mining functions.
• Conduct routine grade control estimations and updates.
• Provide support for administrative functions (accruals, costs, site entry, inventory).
• Lead a dynamic team of open pit geologists and technicians.
• Contribute to the long-term strategic objectives of the department, mine and company.
