Job summary

Focus Minerals is seeking a Senior Geologist: Open Pits to lead grade control and optimise ore recovery on a site-based roster. You will mentor a team of mine geologists and implement fit-for-purpose workflows to drive efficient mining strategies.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Geologist, you will oversee data quality, reconciliation processes and contribute to weekly, monthly and yearly planning while delivering precise geological data to guide our mining strategies.

Qualifications

• Tertiary geology qualification or equivalent.
• Experience as geologist in open pit gold mining.
• Ability to mentor junior geologists and manage a small team.
• Strong reporting and presentation skills.
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
• Experience with mining software Datamine and Leapfrog.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the quality of geological data collection for downstream resource and reconciliation functions.
• Develop, implement and maintain systems to streamline workflows.
• Conduct end-of-month reconciliation processes.
• Contribute to weekly, monthly and yearly scheduling and planning of mining functions.
• Conduct routine grade control estimations and updates.
• Provide support for administrative functions (accruals, costs, site entry, inventory).
• Lead a dynamic team of open pit geologists and technicians.
• Contribute to long-term strategic objectives of the department, mine and company.

About the role:

Focus Minerals is currently seeking aSenior Geologist: Open Pits to join them on an 8/6 roster based on Site. Reporting to the Superintendent: Geologist, you will be responsible for overseeing all grade control activities and ensuring the implementation of fit for purpose workflows to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution. This pivotal role involves mentoring a team of Mine Geologists, implementing efficient mining methodologies, and delivering precise geological data to guide our mining strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure the quality of geological data collection for downstream resource and reconciliation functions.


• Develop, implement and maintain systems and processes to streamline workflows.


• Conduct EOM reconciliation processes.


• Contribute to the weekly, monthly and yearly scheduling and planning of mining functions.


• Conduct routine grade control estimations and updates.


• Provide support for administrative functions (accruals, costs, site entry, inventory).


• Lead a dynamic team of open pit geologists and technicians.


• Contribute to the long-term strategic objectives of the department, mine and company.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or equivalent.


• Strong experience as a geologist within an open pit gold mining operation.


• Ability to mentor junior mine geologists and manage a small team.


• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Datamine and Leapfrog.


• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.


• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
