Job summary

Life Without Barriers in Newcastle, Maitland & Hunter, is seeking a Disability Support Worker (SIL) on a casual basis to support people with disability in shared housing or their own homes. You will assist with daily living, promote independence, and work within PBSPs to ensure personalised care.

The role covers a 24/7 roster with essential sleepover shifts. A NSW driver’s licence, reliability, and a compassionate approach are required to join our team in the local community.

Qualifications

• Strong background in mental health support.
• Ability to implement positive behaviour support strategies.
• An unrestricted New South Wales driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Demonstrated ability to use basic technology and software on a mobile and desktop.
• A current First Aid Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to participants with mental health challenges, behaviours of concern, and complex support needs.
• Implement and follow Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs).
• Assist with personal care activities, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and daily living tasks.
• Advocate for client choice, expression, and active engagement in their local community.
• Think outside the box and adapt to the preferences of each participant.
• Availability for sleepover shifts is essential.
