Job summary

Life Without Barriers in Newcastle is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to assist people with disability in Shared Living arrangements and in their own homes. You will deliver person-centred care, assist with daily living tasks, and advocate for client choice within a 24/7 roster.

The role requires hands-on experience in mental health support, ability to implement PBSPs, and a valid NSW driver’s licence.

Qualifications

• Experience in mental health support and complex needs.
• Ability to implement PBSPs across settings.
• Unrestricted NSW driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Basic tech literacy on mobile and desktop devices.
• Current First Aid certification HLTAID003 or HLTAID011.
• Willingness to clear probity checks including NDIS Worker Screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to participants with mental health challenges.
• Implement and follow PBSPs to guide support plans.
• Assist with daily living activities and personal care.
• Advocate for client choice and community engagement.
• Think creatively to meet participant preferences and needs.
• Sleepover shifts are essential to the roster.

About the Role

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is supporting people with disability in shared housing or in their own home, providing various supports including personal care and daily living assistance. You can expect to work across a 24/7 roster.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred support to participants with mental health challenges, behaviours of concern, and complex support needs
• Implement and follow Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs)
• Assist with personal care activities, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and daily living tasks
• Advocate for client choice, expression, and active engagement in their local community
• Think outside the box and adapt to the preferences of each participant
• Availability for sleepover shifts is essential

Skills & Experience

• Strong background in mental health support
• Ability to implement positive behaviour support strategies
• An unrestricted New South Wales driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
• Demonstrated ability to use basic technology and software on a mobile and desktop
• A current First Aid Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011

Successful candidates will be required to clear all state-based probity checks; including but not limited to a National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

• Pay rates starting from $45.28 (casual) as per the SCHADS Award
