Job summary

Thiess is seeking an experienced Shotfirer to join the Drill & Blast Crew at the Olive Downs Complex in the Bowen Basin, 40 km SE of Moranbah. The role requires operating on a 7/7 day shift with occasional night shifts and reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor.

Key duties include magazine management, loading and firing blasts, explosives reconciliation, and mentoring crew members, with safety and regulatory compliance at the forefront of daily operations.

Qualifications

• Valid QLD Shotfirer Licence and Driver's Licence.
• Current Standard 11.
• Experience using electronic initiation systems.
• Demonstrated compliance with safety and explosives regulations.
• Operational experience with Mobile Processing Units is preferred.
• Ability to operate a loader, bobcat and stemming truck is desirable.

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Shotfirer to join the Thiess Drill & Blast Crew at our Olive Downs Complex in the Bowen Basin, located 40 kilometres south-east of Moranbah. The Olive Downs Complex began mining operations in mid-2023 and Thiess is delivering a five-year full-service mining contract that includes mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, autonomous load and haul, water management, rehabilitation, and mine infrastructure development.

About The Role

Working a 7/7 day-shift roster, with occasional night-shift requirements (paid at the applicable night-shift rate), and reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

• Magazine management and on-site transport of explosives
• Managing the loading, tying, and firing of blasts following blast designs
• Daily reconciliation and reporting of explosives usage
• Assist with training and mentoring of blast crew members
• Identifying, communicating and management of hazards within the work area
