Job summary

Capella Sydney is seeking a Shift Engineer to ensure the seamless operation of the hotel’s mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance to support a safe and high-performing environment for guests and staff.

Responsibilities include managing the kitchen and pool systems, logging maintenance activities, and coordinating with other departments to deliver a superior guest experience at a luxury heritage property in Sydney.

Qualifications

• Experience in similar roles.
• Proven ability to perform preventive maintenance and basic diagnostics of hotel infrastructure.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Valid working rights in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment across the hotel.
• Maintains pool system, supply lines and ancillary fittings.
• Ensures kitchen equipment and related systems operate safely and efficiently.
• Keeps logs and records quality checks for machinery and systems.
• Completes work orders and communicates status to ensure guest satisfaction.
• Oversees the operation of physical plant and engineering facilities per policies.
• Adheres to maintenance schedules and safety regulations.
• Maintains orderly and clean engineering areas across the hotel.
• Collaborates with other departments to resolve operational issues.

Position Summary

As a Shift Engineer, you play a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of our hotel’s infrastructure. You will be responsible for the efficient functioning, upkeep, and preventive maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), kitchen, and ancillary systems, as well as ensuring all fittings and fixtures throughout the property are operating at optimal levels.

Your keen eye for detail and proactive approach will be essential in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and high-performing environment for our guests and colleagues alike. Whether it’s troubleshooting a technical issue, responding to urgent maintenance requests, or implementing energy-efficient solutions, you will be a critical contributor to the daily operation and long-term success of the Engineering department.

Role:

• Repairs and maintains all mechanical, electrical ad hydraulic equipment in good working order throughout the hotel.
• Repairs and maintains pool system, supply lines and ancillary fittings in good working order.
• Ensures the kitchen and associated equipment are working properly and efficiently during the course of duties.
• Checks and records in a log book, including the quality of the machine.
• Carries out all work orders and repairs assigned. Effectively communicate the status of completion to ensure a quality guest experience and a defect-free service environment for both colleagues and guests.
• Responsible for proper operation of physical plant and all engineering facilities of the entire property by established policies and procedures, maintenance program and operation schedule.
• Comply strictly with the proper execution of reparation and established maintenance program, procedures and policies.
• Responsible for order and cleanliness of engineering areas throughout the Hotel. Ensuring that all safety rules and regulations are adhered to.
• Maintains strong working relationships with other departments to ensure effective communications for operational issues, and serves as a role model for inter-departmental collaboration and support.

Talent Profile:

• Experiences in similar roles.
• Basic computer skills with hands‑on experience in room maintenance.
• Ability to work shift work on a rotational roster including weekends and public holidays.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Valid working rights in Australia.
