Job summary

Hyatt Centric Melbourne is seeking a Shift Engineer to support the Engineering Department, maintaining plant machinery and performing repairs across front and back of house while upholding brand standards.

You will work with a team, rotate weekends/holidays, and may progress within an international company in Australia or overseas. The role offers career development and exposure to a luxury hospitality environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in general maintenance.
• Trade qualification is highly desirable.
• Experience in facilities maintenance advantageous.
• Strong time management and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance and repair work hotel-wide, across multiple disciplines.
• Attend to guest and colleague requests promptly while maintaining service quality.
• Perform routine inspections of public areas and monitor plant operations.
• Assist other trades and report plant/equipment malfunctions promptly.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors while ensuring safety procedures.
• Maintain a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.

About the Role:

As the Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting the Engineering Department in ensuring the hotel is well maintained and guests’ needs are met in accordance with Hyatt International’s brand standards. This will be demonstrated through operating plant machinery and carrying out repairs and maintenance across both front and back of house areas. Working within a team, you will support the Engineering Assistant Manager in day-to-day operations while helping the team achieve our purpose.

This varied and dynamic role provides you with a chance to develop your trades and engineering career within an international company; either in Australia or overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out a range of maintenance and repair work throughout the hotel, primarily within your core skill set, while demonstrating the flexibility to work across multiple disciplines.
• Attend to all guest and colleague requests in a timely and professional manner, creating a positive first impression through every interaction.
• Perform routine inspections of public areas, monitor plant operations, conduct regular plant inspections, and carry out repairs and maintenance as required.
• Assist other trades in the completion of tasks and report any plant or equipment malfunctions as they arise.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors where required, ensuring compliance with hotel procedures relating to guest interaction and safety.
• Maintain flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

About you:

• Trade qualified is highly desirable, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a general maintenance role.
• Previous experience within a facilities maintenance environment would be advantageous.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Excellent customer service, communication and service resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform a broad range of general maintenance and repair work.
• A collaborative team player who is able to build positive working relationships while contributing effectively within a team environment.
