Job summary

Hyde Melbourne Place is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead facilities and maintenance across the hotel. You will ensure that all technical systems operate smoothly, drive preventive maintenance, and lead a hands-on engineering team to deliver a safe, comfortable guest experience.

The role emphasizes energy efficiency, on-call availability, and collaboration with other departments to support seamless service delivery. Excellent communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or similar role in hotels, resorts, or commercial buildings.
• Strong knowledge of building services, plant equipment, and compliance requirements.
• Hands-on leadership style with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call as required.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of engineering systems – HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.
• Lead, schedule, and support the engineering team with high standards of work.
• Manage preventive maintenance programs for equipment, guest rooms, and public areas.
• Respond quickly to maintenance requests or emergencies to minimise disruption.
• Collaborate with department heads to support operational needs and service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental standards and brand requirements.
• Manage contractors, service providers, and external inspections for quality and timeliness.
• Monitor energy use and maintenance budgets to optimise costs.
• Keep detailed maintenance records and assist with capital planning and projects.
• Train the team on safety, emergency procedures, and best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
