Job description

Shape the future MRM builds with the Territory

Few roles in the Territory offer the reach of this one. This is a senior, high-autonomy role for an experienced stakeholder and social performance professional ready to shape how MRM builds trust with stakeholders, communities and government – working closely with the Superintendent Communities and Social Performance, with real influence over MRM’s social investment portfolio and standing across the Gulf region and the NT.

Why This Role
  • Genuine seniority and autonomy – you’ll work with a high degree of independence, backed by the support of your Superintendent and the broader senior leadership team.
  • A direct report (Administration Officer) and the scope to grow your leadership experience.
  • Real influence over outcomes that matter – Traditional Owner and community relationships, government relationships and where MRM’s social investment go.
  • Variety that keeps the work interesting – one week you’re briefing a key stakeholder, the next you’re out at a remote community, the next you’re preparing a briefing for senior leadership.
  • A platform to build your profile you’ll represent MRM in forums most professionals only read about.
Your Impact

In this role, you will:

  • Help shape and deliver the stakeholder engagement strategy that underpins MRM’s reputation and social licence to operate.
  • Build and maintain trusted, respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, community leaders, government representatives and industry organisations.
  • Lead formal stakeholder meetings and government briefings – owning the agendas, briefing papers, presentations and follow-through that make MRM a partner people can rely on.
  • Support the delivery of commitments made with Traditional Owners and local communities.
  • Lead sponsorships and community events that put MRM’s commitment to the Territory on display.
  • Write the executive-level briefings, speeches, presentations and correspondence that represent MRM to senior leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage MRM’s social investment portfolio end to end – assessment, due diligence, approvals, monitoring and reporting.
  • Lead key elements of Glencore’s Social Performance and Human Rights Standard, including stakeholder engagement, social risk and grievance management.
  • Keep MRM’s stakeholder and commitment records accurate and current, and work across the operation to ensure commitments are delivered, not just documented.
About You

You’re an experienced stakeholder or social performance professional looking for a role with real weight behind it. You bring sound judgement, cultural awareness and the confidence to work independently on complex, sensitive matters – balancing the needs of Traditional Owners, government and MRM’s senior leadership with equal care.

You will bring:

  • At least five years’ relevant experience in stakeholder engagement, social performance, government relations, communications, community relations or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Traditional Owners or remote communities in a culturally respectful manner.
  • Experience managing complex or sensitive stakeholder matters and building trusted relationships across diverse groups.
  • Strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement and social performance principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including experience preparing executive briefings, reports, presentations and correspondence.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing social investment, community programs or stakeholder commitments.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Marketing, Social Science, Stakeholder Engagement or a related discipline.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to site and remote communities, and a current Australian driver’s licence.
Desirable
  • Experience in mining, resources, infrastructure, government or another complex operating environment.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Territory government and community context.
  • Experience applying corporate Social Performance and Human Rights standards.
  • Experience using stakeholder management systems such as Borealis.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating the work of others.
