Job summary

Telstra Corporation in Melbourne is seeking a Senior SRE Engineer to lead reliability, security and operational excellence across cloud-native platforms and Kubernetes on AWS. You will support CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation and observability, driving improvements in reliability, performance and capacity.

The role requires 5+ years in SRE/Platform roles, strong Kubernetes and AWS experience, and expertise in DevSecOps with GitLab.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services and Kubernetes in large-scale production environments.
• Experience implementing DevSecOps and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
• Strong scripting/automation with Python and Bash; TypeScript or Java considered an advantage.
• Experience with observability tooling (Splunk, New Relic, Fluent Bit, Kafka) and data analytics (SQL, Pandas).
• Understanding of AI and automation concepts with practical applications in network operations and engineering workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders in an Agile environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Provide operational support, incident management, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
• Drive reliability, performance, resilience and capacity improvements through engineering best practices.
• Lead change management activities and drive standardisation of SRE tooling, processes and operating models across missions.
• Contribute to chapter initiatives, capability uplift, knowledge sharing and the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and automation.

About you

Mandatory requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience working as a Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role
• Strong hands‑on experience with AWS services including EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, SQS, Secrets Manager, Kinesis, Firehose, and Cost Management
• Proven expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration within large‑scale production environments
• Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Bash - experience with TypeScript or Java is advantageous
• Demonstrated experience with data analytics and observability tooling including SQL, Pandas, Splunk, New Relic, Fluent Bit, and Kafka
• Understanding of AI and automation concepts, with the ability to identify practical applications within network operations and engineering workflows
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non‑technical audiences
• Proven ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a dynamic Agile environment
• Strong knowledge of operational best practices, including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity planning, performance engineering, resilience improvement, and post‑incident reviews, with an understanding of Telstra policies and governance requirements
