Job summary

Telstra is seeking an experienced Senior SRE Engineer to lead reliability across the CSM mission and Orchestration SRE team. You will build and optimise cloud-native platforms on AWS, scale Kubernetes, and advance CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation and observability capabilities.

You will drive incident management, capacity planning and continuous service improvement while standardising tooling and processes across missions. Strong communication and independent leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, SQS, Secrets Manager, Kinesis, Firehose, and Cost Management.
• Proven expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration within large-scale production environments.
• Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Bash - TypeScript or Java is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience with data analytics and observability tooling including SQL, Pandas, Splunk, New Relic, Fluent Bit, and Kafka.
• Understanding of AI and automation concepts with practical applications in network operations and engineering workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and collaborate in a dynamic Agile environment.
• Strong knowledge of operational best practices including incident, problem, change, capacity, performance, resilience management, and Telstra governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead SRE practices across the CSM mission and Orchestration SRE team for platform reliability, security and ops excellence.
• Build, maintain and optimise cloud-native platforms and Kubernetes environments on AWS.
• Develop and support CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation and observability capabilities.
• Provide incident management, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
• Drive reliability, performance, resilience and capacity improvements through best practices.
• Lead change management and standardisation of SRE tooling, processes and operating models.
• Contribute to chapter initiatives and adoption of emerging tech including AI and automation.
