Job Title: Senior Solution Architect – Azure & Platform Engineering

Contract: 3-month contract | Possible extension | Immediate start

Job Summary

Our client is a leading Australian critical infrastructure organisation responsible for delivering essential services to communities and businesses. With a strong focus on technology, innovation and digital transformation, the organisation is investing in modern cloud platforms and emerging technologies to support the next generation of its technology environment. They are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to join its Technology & Innovation function and play a key role in establishing new Platform Engineering capabilities and an Azure-based Innovation Sandbox. This is an exciting opportunity for an architect who enjoys working across cloud, platform engineering, architecture and innovation, and who can combine strategic thinking with hands‑on technical capability. The organisation is transitioning towards a Platform Engineering operating model, creating reusable platforms and capabilities that enable development teams to deliver products and projects more efficiently. As the Senior Solution Architect, you will help shape the platform strategy, technology standards and roadmap, while also supporting the design and establishment of a new Azure Innovation Sandbox. The sandbox will provide a secure, isolated environment for teams to experiment with emerging technologies, AI agents, prototypes and innovation initiatives without impacting the production environment. You'll work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure & Cloud, Cyber Architecture, development teams, business stakeholders, external service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the Platform Engineering architecture, roadmap and strategy
• Help establish platform capabilities, technical standards and technology stack
• Define platform scope, boundaries, lifecycle and service catalogue
• Work with Enterprise Architecture to align technology standards and platform direction
• Translate business and technical requirements into high-level and detailed solution designs
• Review and provide quality assurance across vendor solution designs and implementations
• Provide technical direction and guidance to internal and external development teams
• Design and support the establishment of an Azure Innovation / Developer Sandbox
• Work with Microsoft and external technology partners to deliver the environment
• Support Azure configuration and implementation activities where required
• Assess new technology and innovation ideas and provide architectural recommendations
• Ensure solutions align with security, governance, ICT standards and business objectives
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers and technical teams
• Contribute to broader technology strategy, architecture governance and continuous improvement

About You

We’re looking for a senior architect with a strong combination of Platform Engineering, Azure and Solution Architecture experience.

You will ideally have:

• Strong experience in Platform Architecture or Platform Engineering
• Extensive Microsoft Azure / Cloud Architecture experience
• A background in Solution Architecture, with the ability to translate requirements into practical technical designs
• Experience defining platform roadmaps, technology standards, capabilities and governance
• Hands‑on understanding of Azure environments and cloud infrastructure
• Experience working with external service providers, technology vendors or Microsoft partners
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• The ability to challenge and quality‑assure technical designs while working collaboratively with delivery teams
• Good understanding of security and governance principles in enterprise environments
• A practical, hands‑on approach rather than purely strategic or governance‑focused experience

Experience within utilities, energy, mining, government, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous, but is not essential.
