Job summary

NSW Treasury in Sydney is seeking a Senior Solicitor to join the Office of General Counsel and advise on complex commercial, procurement and policy matters affecting the department.

You will support the Commercial Group and Procurement Reform & Banking Group, drafting and reviewing contracts, policies and inter-agency documents while meeting tight timeframes. The role offers flexible working options and development opportunities within public sector law.

Qualifications

• Admission as a legal practitioner and a current practising certificate.
• Experience providing legal advice and contributing to governance policy and drafting complex legal documents.
• Experience in commercial, procurement, administrative or regulatory law, or the demonstrated ability to quickly build expertise in new areas of legal practice.
• Sound judgement and the ability to identify and manage legal, strategic, commercial and policy risks.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
• Ability to prioritise competing matters and deliver timely, accurate and practical legal services in a high-volume environment.

Your day as a Senior Solicitor

Provide expert legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial, procurement, contractual, policy and legislative matters that support Treasury operations.

You will advise the Commercial Group and Procurement Reform & Banking Group on policy initiatives, projects, transactions and whole-of-government procurement arrangements. Your work will include drafting and reviewing contracts, memoranda of understanding, policies and inter-agency documents, researching complex legal issues and delivering clear, practical and timely advice.

You will manage day-to-day legal requests, work closely with senior lawyers and Treasury stakeholders, and liaise with the Crown Solicitor’s Office and external law firms where specialist advice is required. Success in the role will require sound judgement, strong matter and time management, and the ability to consider legal, policy, practical and commercial factors under tight timeframes.

You will be joining our Office of General Counsel and working within the Commercial, Procurement & Banking team.
