Job summary

Optus is seeking a senior software engineer to design and build scalable automation and observability platforms across Australia’s national network. You will lead architecture decisions, mentor teammates, and work with cross‑functional teams to translate operational needs into robust technical solutions.

You will apply Golang and Python expertise in Linux environments, leverage Kafka and real‑time data processing, and utilize Grafana/Elasticsearch for observability while collaborating with data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
• 4+ years of production software experience in Golang and Python.
• Experience with Linux, event streaming (Kafka) and real‑time data processing.
• Strong observability, CI/CD practices and database knowledge.
• Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, PyTorch) or workflow tools is valued.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of scalable automation and observability platforms that operate at national telco scale.
• Drive technical initiatives from concept to production with architectures balancing performance and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, pair programming and mentoring.
• Collaborate with network engineers, product teams and stakeholders to translate needs into solutions.
• Solve complex problems across the full stack, from data pipelines to AI‑powered automation systems.
• Establish engineering best practices and introduce new technologies to improve efficiency.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and incident response for production systems.
