Preacta Recruitment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead a cloud-native transformation, building event-driven Java services in a modern stack (Java 21, Python, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS). You will own architecture decisions and shape a multi-year program for a major Australian financial services organisation.

Strong Java fundamentals and a design-first mindset are essential. You’ll contribute across design, development, and production support, with opportunities to influence system design

Qualifications

You'll work across the full lifecycle — from design and architecture through to build, testing, and production support — with real ownership over how problems get solved, not just how tickets get closed.

What we are looking for:

• Strong hands-on Java experience (Java 21 highly regarded), with working knowledge of Python
• Experience designing and building microservices and serverless functions (AWS Lambda) from the ground up
• Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, ideally with Kafka
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong SQL skills and the ability to reason about data at scale
• A genuine design and architecture mindset — someone who can take a business problem and turn it into a system design, then bring others along with the idea
• Domain exposure to banking, payments, or other transaction‑critical financial services environments is highly regarded but not essential
